Return to Order gives a well thought out plan to this seemingly impossible endeavor. This is a very timely book that is a must read.

There's much to like about this book. Opens our troubled futuristic minds to the realities of what living without a moral compass..
I give the message a five star, the way it was written a 3 star because of the complex words being used, of the 5 who read this book in our group , 4 of the 5 had the same complaint. So if your not an english major, have a dictionary handy or read it on electronic book so you can look up as you read.
Although I already adhere to many of the principles laid out in this book, I can readily see how our country is on a path of destruction. We are no longer an example to the rest of the world, we are instead a country in decline and seem to be in a race to see how quickly we can hit bottom. The fall always goes much more quickly than the ascent. People need to understand this and become active on every level in order to change it. Book can be tedious but concepts are profound.
It is not always easy to get the whole of an awful set of truths about brokenness along with another set of how-to-fix-its in one book but John has written a worthy directory for reading, sharing, and keeping a copy for oneself.
A clear indictment of our mad rush to obtain more and more stuff, regardless of the cost to society, or families, and even ourselves. While the books central argument will make more sense to someone who has a background in Christian theology, this book is also of value to anyone who sees the inherent problems in a culture whose only tenets appears to be, "MORE!" and "NOW!"
Brilliant economic treatise that is as relevant to any country in the world as it is to the US. Humanity's unquenched appetite for more material possessions and benefits, regardless of cost, is directly linked to our inability to place a limit, usually determined by Christian morality, on our base urges, or, as the author put it "frenetic intemperance". John Horvat rightly states the problem is not in changing our economic model but in changing our behaviour away from this "frenetic intemperance", and the desire to have more and more for free regardless of consequences, and return to responsibility and self restraint. The teachings of the Church provide us with the guidelines how to do exactly that.
In my opinion, this is the best book about the economic crisis in America. Mr. Horvat compares America’s current situation to a party cruise ship. Many simply want the party to keep going, while ignoring the cost and the increasing disorder which will sooner or later cause everything to come crashing down. Mr. Horvat says that it is time to declare that the party is over. Although it might be hard to swallow, his analysis of the crisis is spot on.

The second part of the book lays out a solution. Since the economic problem is rooted in man’s disordered passions, a term he genially defines as “frenetic intemperance,” the solution must address this moral problem and put man’s passions back in check. However, he does not advocate some socialist or rigorist system. Rather, Mr. Horvat shows how certain principles, such as the Cardinal Virtues, honor and a mentality willing to accept sacrifice, will quell the current frenzied and disordered situation and help economy and society return to order. This is the basis of what he calls organic Christian society. The result is a return to a strong, integral America.

I would recommend this book to anyone concerned about the state of our nation today. Unlike some ivory tower intellectual who doesn’t have contact with the outside world, Mr. Horvat is sensible and encouraging. He conveys a sense of real hope to the reader. I can say that this is the effect it had on me!
